Great Snowboarding Resorts

Should I go skiing? And can I use snow pants?
I skied a little in my youth and hurt my knew twice pulling ligaments. It healed and seems fine now. That was 30 years ago. Now I’m 57 and my daughter wants to take snowboarding lessons this winter and I’m going to the resort with her. Should I take some skiing lessons and give it another try? Or am I too old to learn again and might seriously hurt myself? I’m in pretty good, not great shape for my age. And if I do it can I buy some cheap snow pants I found on the internet instead of expensive ski pants since I may never do it again and don’t want to waste a lot of money?
YES smart thinking as far as the gear goes. Buy everything cheap and rent as much as possible (with the exception of helmets) cause you never know how much use you will get out of it. I definitely recommend lessons, it will make it much easier for you, and you will learn slower anyhow simply because You Are older. Don’t worry about hurting yourself, if you stick to beginners stuff until you are ready to advance, the worst it will probably come to is bruises and such. Don’t worry about being in shape, basic skiing skills in easy conditions don’t require much physical exertion. I would however, watch your knee. Once torn, ligaments can retear extremely easily. I know a skier who took their ACL out last season, and retore it on the training trampoline this summer. I watched her do it, it didn’t take much. I recommend wearing a flexible brace, as annoying and uncomfy as it may become. Most of all know you will have a great time, and certain things may come back to you. Skiing is similar to riding a bike, the basics should come back to you fairly quickly if you ever knew them well.
