Can you get altitude sickness at big bear?

About two years ago, I went snowboarding there with no problems, even spent the night once. Last year I went twice, once to snowboard, once to go horseback riding and got a migraine both times. Is it possible that it is altitude sickness? I didn’t get it before, but it is possible to develop it over the years? Just wondering because my friends are planning a weekend up and I don’t want to feel miserable the whole time.

It sounds like you had altitude sickness. As our bodies age we become less tolerant to our environment, so it would be very likely to develop it when you didn’t have it before. To avoid or lessen the effects, try to stay well hydrated, avoid alcohol, try not to exert yourself as much as you usually do, take deeper slower breaths, and get enough rest. Altitude sickness is directly related to the lack of oxygen in the air up there, so you just need to slow down and drink up (water, that is). I hope you still have a good weekend!
