Portland Oregon Snowboarding

What is Portland, Oregon like?

I’d like to relocate there. I’m looking for a state where I can meet open minded people, somewhere that has tons of outdoor activities especially snowboarding, I want to snowboard BAD, not too many religious people which is why I’m avoiding Utah and really religious places.

I like what I read about on wiki so far, that you can use other transportation besides a car, I really don’t like taking care of a car, I can do it, but I’d like to save money by using other means. I don’t have a family, in fact, I’ve chosen a childfree lifestyle so no need to worry about schools.

Anyway, is it a decent place to live, not too expensive? I live in Phoenix, AZ right now. I’m so sick of the desert. Please someone help me o ut. Thanks.

Portland itself is largely nonreligious, filled with lots of hipsters and yuppies from LA, SF, NY, Boston and Seattle and as such has a pretty good arts/music scene, pretty inexpensive, good public transit.

If you go a little distance out from the city, it changes. People who only think of Washington and Oregon as Seattle and Portland don’t realize that a lot of the rest of those states are VERY republican, VERY conservative, and pretty close minded… not filled with latte-sipping, Powerbook-toting, Prius-driving vegetarians like everyone thinks. National Socialists, xenophobic libertarians, and things like that. But Portland/Gresham is pretty much okay.
