info on moving to seattle?

my husband and i are thinking about moving to the seattle area possibly around the end of this year, maybe sooner, maybe later.. we aren’t sure yet. we will be coming from austin, tx, but we are originally from southern california. my husband really loves the outdoors like snowboarding, rafting, and hiking. i really like the big city feel, and a good night life, with lots of great restaurants and cool people like what austin has. what is the rent like there in the seattle area? what cities are around seattle that we could move to that maybe aren’t as expensive? whats work like there? i am a nanny and my husband works in the elevator trade but is currently laid off. are all the activities i mentioned we like to do possible there? what are the people like?

You might like Issaquah, which is about 15 miles E of Seattle on I-90. It’s convenient to Seattle and the other cities, but not quite as crowded. It’s also closer to the mountains. There is class III rafting within 20 minutes of Issaquah (the Middle Fork Snoqualmie) and class III-IV rafting within 40 minutes (the Green River Gorge). You might also consider North Bend, which is further out but still on I-90, so it’s convenient to get into the bigger cities. North Bend is a small town, and there’s not much night life, but it’s very nice if you like the mountains.

One thing to keep in mind is that winters can be tough on you. It’s not so much that it’s cold, but that the days are short and it can be a bit gloomy. In the areas close to Seattle, it really doesn’t rain all that much, but it can be cloudy and foggy. In North Bend, there are more sunny days, but it does rain as much as 80″ a year (which is great for rafting and kayaking and snowboarding).
